About this benefit
This event was conceived as a way to open up a candid dialogue about mental health issues in our community. We live in a culture of denial, dismissal, and neglect when it comes to mental illness. Our infrastructure for care is largely limited to crisis management, intervening only when a situation is so dire it can no longer be ignored. Creating a safe, welcoming space for people to talk about their experiences with mental illness is an important step towards making Tompkins County a better home for those who struggle with these issues. All proceeds from the show will be donated to the Mental Health Association in Tompkins County.
WHat is the MHATC? |
"The Mental Health Association in Tompkins County is committed to developing and supporting the active involvement of ordinary people (including providers, family members and recipients) in all aspects of mental health; these include the definition of needs, the promotion of community and the provision of services. We also support the human and civil rights of people who use mental health services, and will educate the community on all perspectives concerning mental health and mental health disabilities." - MHAedu.org
